Introduction to Cannabinoids

The Human Endocannabinoid System

One of the reasons CBD is thought to have beneficial effects is because our own human bodies have an innate endocannabinoid system (ECS), a complex cell signalling system that regulates a range of functions including sleep, mood, appetite, memory, fertility, reproduction, and more. The human ECS has three basic components: endocannabinoid molecules produced by your body; endocannabinoid receptors in both your central nervous system and peripheral nervous system; and enzymes that break down endocannabinoids once they’ve accomplished their functions. Because of the natural ECS receptors in our bodies, the cannabinoids in our products are absorbed and utilized by the body, unlike artificial chemicals like alcohol whose byproducts must be filtered out by the liver and kidneys.

Cannabidiol
C21H30O2
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, has gained recognition as an effective treatment for anxiety, inflammation, and a variety of gastrointestinal conditions. It is becoming incredibly popular in relieving the stress and anxiety of everyday living, promoting healing, reducing inflammation in joints and muscles, and increasing a sense of calm and peace of mind.
CBG
Cannabigerol
C21H30O2
Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and is the precursor to other cannabinoids such as CBD and THC. CBG has demonstrated the potential for a variety of health benefits, as a neuroprotectant, providing antioxidant properties, as an aid for skin ailments providing antibacterial and antifungal properties. It serves as a treatment for gastrointestinal disorders, reduces inflammation, may be effective as an anti-cancer agent, and can lower intraocular pressure to benefit glaucoma patients. It is an effective muscle relaxant and decreases anxiety.
CBN
Cannabinol
C21H30O2
CBN is the abbreviation for Cannabinol, a non-intoxicating compound found in the cannabis plant after the compound THC ages. Although research on the effects of CBN are in the infancy stages, preliminary findings are encouraging. Studies show that CBN may be an effective antibacterial agent. Studies with rodents found that CBN delayed the onset of ALS which may indicate that CBN can be a potent agent in combating human ALS and other degenerative and inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis.
How is CBD Different from THC & Marijuana?
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of two natural compounds found in both the hemp and marijuana plants. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the other compound. Hemp plants contain less than 0.3% of THC, while marijuana plants contain higher concentrations of THC. Both CBD and THC interact with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system, but in very different ways. THC has a strong psychoactive effect. It binds with the brain’s cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptors in the brain to produce the ‘high’ sensation associated with marijuana. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that binds very weakly, if at all, to the brain’s CB1 receptors. It can even interfere with THC’s binding ability, blunting the psychoactive effects of the THC compound.
What Does All This Mean?
CBD products allow consumers to derive all of the health benefits of CBD without the psychoactive effects produced by THC. And unlike THC, which is a controlled substance and prohibited currently under federal law except for restricted recreational or medical purposes in some states, CBD, is readily available for purchase in a variety of forms such as salves, ointments, tinctures, vapes, edibles, and more without legal constraints. These CBD products improve the lives of many people throughout the world, and are used for treating various conditions, including inflammation, pain, seizures, stress, anxiety, headaches, depression, nausea, and more.
